Carly began her flight and recall training in June 2006 at age 1.5 yrs when she had just a few flight feathers. She had been clipped at a store as a baby, and never fledged. We spent 9-10 months working on learning flight skills and doing recall training indoors. During this time we continued to take excursions outside all the time, with Carly on a harness. In May 2007 she took her first outdoor free flights, and capped it all with a trip to Wyoming for the 2007 Fly Week. She still had a lot of work to do, so we spent a lot of time practicing in the park -- recalls, flying down from heights, getting out of trees, braking from a full speed flight. By November her skills had gotten so good she was diving, screaming, doing straight vertical drops from 30 feet up and generally having a blast!
